Join us for a holiday which takes in the classic city of Rome together with the legendary resort of Sorrento and Italy’s Amalfi coast. Our holiday starts with a Champagne check-in and an escorted afternoon departure from St Pancras International, London, where we join Eurostar to Paris (journey time just over 2 hours).
By train to Rome
In Paris we transfer to the Gare de Bercy station to join the Artesia train direct to Rome. On board the Artesia, settle in to your private cabin and relax as the journey to Venice begins. The train has a restaurant car with waiter service, or you can obtain snacks and drinks from the snack bar. In the sleeping cars, you can travel with full peace of mind:
• Each cabin has a wash basin, a razor socket, a complimentary toiletry kit, a bottle of water and the comfort of 2 real beds (upper & lower berths).
• Attendants are at your service to set up the beds and handle customs procedures for you.
• When you wake up, at the time of your choice, the attendant will serve you a hot drink, croissant and fruit juice in your cabin (all included in the price).
Rome & Sorrento
On arrival in Rome, we join our waiting coach for a guided city tour taking in the best known landmarks of the Eternal City. You will also have free time to explore at you own pace before dinner at the hotel. Our 2-night stay in Rome also includes a guided tour of the Vatican City, where you will be able to visit St Peter’s Basilica and Michael Angelo’s masterpiece – the Sistine Chapel.
We rejoin the coach for the drive to Sorrento and our 4–star hotel near the beach. Our 4–night stay here includes an excursion along the amazing Amalfi Coast and the opportunity to visit the Isle of Capri and the magnificent preserved city of Pompeii.
With a country steeped in history, magnificent views at virtually every turn and local people who like to welcome visitors with true hospitality, it’s no wonder Rome and Sorrento are must–see destinations.

Itinerary - Day 1: London to Venice by train
Enjoy a glass of bubbly at St Pancras famous Champagne Bar, meet your tour escort and fellow travellers. Depart London St Pancras early afternoon* by Eurostar to Paris. Transfer to the Artesia overnight express sleeper train to Rome.
Day 2: Tour of Rome
Arrive in Rome after breakfast where we join our waiting coach and guide for a guided tour of the city’s main highlights during which you will see the best-known sights before free time to explore on your own. Late afternoon we transfer to the hotel where we check-in for our 2–night stay with dinner.
Day 3: Vatican visit
After breakfast we will drive to the Vatican City where you will be able to visit St Peter’s Basilica and Michelangelo’s masterpiece, the magnificent Sistine chapel (entry not included). Please remember the Vatican has a strict dress code of no shorts, bare shoulders or miniskirts. Early afternoon we transfer to the city centre where you can just stroll through the streets, enjoy real coffee at a pavement café, or eat a long lunch. It’s a place that almost encourages you to take things easy. If you’re tired of museums and artifacts, there are still plenty of piazzas, chic boutiques and interesting gardens in which to relax. We return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 4: Drive to Sorrento
After breakfast we check–out of the hotel and join the coach for the drive to Sorrento. After checking in at our main hotel the rest of the day is free to enjoy the locality of Saint Agnello or relax around the hotel pool. The centre of Sorrento is approximately 1 mile away or alternatively you can visit the beach which is just a 200–metre walk. Here you can descend by lift to a typical Sorrento beach: the Marinella, one of the most popular and characteristic beaches on the Sorrento Coast. From the terrace above the beach you can admire the enchanting landscape and the whole Gulf of Naples and Versuvius.
Day 5: ’cross the sea to Capri
Free day to discover Sorrento on your own or take the optional Hydrofoil excursion to Capri. Luxuriant, extraordinary, and with a mild climate, Capri is a Mediterranean island of calcareous origin that has been visited over the centuries by intellectuals, artists and writers, all enthralled by its magical beauty. A mix of history, nature, worldliness, culture and events that blend together and bring the Legend of Capri to life; a legend that sees no comparison anywhere in the world.
Day 6: Discovering the Amalfi Coast
A full day visiting Italy’s Amalfi Coast; a coast that links Positano to Vietri sul Mare, lying at the gates of Salerno. Surrounded by steep rugged mountain cliffs 700 meters high that drop dramatically into the deep blue Mediterranean, providing mesmerising views from the land and the sea. The Amalfi coast is unique for its natural beauty, breathtaking views, colours and character. Small, picturesque fishing villages are scattered in clusters on the steep mountain slopes. Villas, churches and shops are built into the rock and many appear to be tumbling over each other as they descend to the water’s edge. Tucked around the houses are well–kept gardens and terraces, narrow cobbled streets with endless steps, lemon trees, vines and olive groves, all made the more dramatic by the cliff–hanging road that winds its way between the villages and towns. We return to Sorrento in time for dinner.
Day 7: Optional visit to Pompeii
A day at leisure in the resort or take the optional half-day excursion to Pompeii. The Roman city of Pompeii was destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 79 AD: One of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, Pompeii and its populace was preserved forever for us in the ash fall that followed the eruption. Unlike many other sites Pompeii was literally frozen in time on that fateful day and many of the artifacts can be seen exactly as they were left by the owners who tried to flee from the eruption. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 8: Castel Gandolfo, then Rome to Paris by train
Depart the hotel after breakfast and drive towards Rome, we will make a stop at Castel Gandolfo – a pretty hill–town perched high above Lake Albano which is also the summer residence of the Pope. Mid–to–late afternoon we return to Rome to take the overnight train to Paris.
Day 9: Paris to Lodon
On arrival in Paris we transfer to the Gare du Nord to take a late morning Eurostar train to London St Pancras, where we anticipate arriving mid–afternoon.
