ITINERARY
Pre-Cruise Stay
You may, if preferred, start your holiday earlier with a 1 or 2-night stay in Athens before the cruise, giving you the opportunity to explore the famous sights including the Acropolis. 1 night £75pp, 2 nights £130pp based on 2 persons sharing a twin⁄double-bedded room with breakfast at a 4-Star city-centre hotel. All transfers in Athens included.
DAY 1 – FRIDAY: Fly UK to Athens – Marina Zea
On arrival transfer to Marina Zea for embarkation. After you board, you’ll enjoy a Welcome Aboard cocktail party. Your ship sets sail that evening, passing Cape Sounion in the distance, where the white marble pillars of the Temple of Poseidon stand on a high promontory and are illuminated at night. Enjoy a delicious dinner on board ship tonight.
Day 2 – SATURDAY: DELOS (anchorage) – MYKONOS, GREECE
The Harmony G sails into the white and blue Cyclades. Enjoy an optional visit by tender to tiny Delos, the mythical birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. Next, we sail to one of Mykonos’ beautiful bays for a nice swim stop and lunch - weather permitting. Later in the afternoon we will sail into Mykonos to allow you to discover its brilliant white houses and stroll the narrow streets.
Day 3: Day 3 – SUNDAY: SAMOS, GREECE
At daybreak we leave Mykonos to reach the island of Lipsi for a revitalising swim stop and a barbeque on deck – weather permitting. In the afternoon, we set sail to Samos for an overnight stop in the charming port of Pythagorio – named after the famous mathematician Pythagoras, who was born here. Lying seductively just off the Turkish coast, Samos is one of the north eastern Aegean Islands’ best-known destinations.
Day 4 – MONDAY: KUSADASI, TURKEY (EPHESUS) – PATMOS, GREECE
Today we arrive in Kusadasi, Turkey, and our explorations of ancient civilisations continue with an optional excursion to Ephesus, the grandest archaeological site in the Aegean region. As you tour this remarkably preserved Greek and Roman city, you may feel as if you’re about to encounter a toga-garbed resident, or hear a chariot clattering down the main avenue – the same avenue down which Cleopatra and Mark Anthony rode in procession more than 2,000 years ago! After lunch, you will have some free time at the bustling market before we sail for the quaint Island of Patmos where we will overnight in port.
Day 5 – TUESDAY: PATMOS – AMORGOS, GREECE
Known as the Jerusalem of the Aegean, it was on Patmos that St John wrote his divinely inspired Revelation the Apocalypse, the last book of the New Testament. Today it is a place of pilgrimage for both Orthodox and western Christians, as well as sun and sand worshippers. Your optional Patmos excursion includes two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Grotto and Monastery of St John and the historic centre of the medieval town of Chora. After lunch we will set sail for the picturesque island of Amorgos – this lovely island rises from the sea in a long dragon’s back of craggy mountains. Arriving in the evening, you can eat out at a local taverna. Overnight in Amorgos.
Day 6 – WEDNESDAY: SANTORINI, GREECE
When you awake this morning, you will be back in the beautiful Cyclades Islands. We are visiting stunning Santorini, formed by the half-submerged crescent of a volcanic caldera. You’ll go ashore by tender and take a cable car to the town of Thira — a stunning cluster of white buildings atop a cliff. Explore on your own, or join the optional guided tour taking-in Thira’s narrow, picturesque streets, including a visit to the Prehistoric Museum, and the beautiful village of Oia on the northern tip of the island.
Day 7 – THURSDAY: KYTHNOS – MARINA ZEA, ATHENS
In the morning we will arrive in Kythnos Island where you will enjoy a swim in Kolones Bay. In the afternoon we sail for Marina Zea where we will arrive in the late afternoon. Overnight in port.
Day 8 – FRIDAY: MARINA ZEA, ATHENS
Disembark after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your return flight.
